A native of Grenoble, Marc Folly trained at the School of Applied Arts in Lyon. He quickly adopts watercolor and devotes himself to it, developing a style associating a figurative drawing with intense hues and finely worked values. The artist Lyonnais exposes today in many countries, including China, Taiwan and the United States (2017).
Profoundly memorable, the watercolors of Marc Folly never leave indifferent. The work of the Lyon artist is always instantly recognizable, whatever the subject. These have moreover tended to vary lately. Beside the workshops, which he still loves to paint and in which he returns with pleasure, Marc Folly allows himself a new incursion into the landscape (a genre he had already treated in the past), as well as in painting almost monochrome. However, if there is one thing that has not changed, it is the rigor of its approach and technique, based on the triad drawing, values, colors. Everything begins with a base drawn with a streak a nervous strand, on which the artist poses its values, before adding, enf in, the colored hues. The technique is only a tool at the service of the will, conscious or unconscious, of the painter.
Hard to describe his own work! The style is a way of doing, modeled by learning, habits, experience ... It is created over time and it is complicated to define it in a few words. But each way of painting has dominant characteristics. One of mine is undoubtedly a particular attention to the trait. As I often say during an internship, being a good draftsman is like being a good painter: the good stroke of a pencil gives the right brushstroke. And I work a lot on the drawing of my watercolors ...The Art of Watercolour #33, p77 Marc Folly
