Watercolor is a painting technique that offers an infinity of possibilities of artistic expression, demanding for the concentration of artists associated with passion. The beauty of the watercolor lies in the white of the paper, the lightness, the movement, the transparency, the bright colors. I paint from nature and bow to the beauty and forces of Nature and the simple, ordinary things around us. I try to capture the spirit of each material and touch the thing beyond reality.
The color of human skin is one of the most complex of all. It changes dramatically depending on the light and the shadows are very delicate. It is a complex mixture with very subtle half-tones. I actually use almost my entire range of colors, but being careful because not every human body has a predominant tone. Each skin has a different complexion. I watch it carefully for a long time to determine its main color. I first apply this first shade, leaving the whites. I then highlight the dark parts. Only after that do I begin to add the different colors, layer after layer, while trying to conform to the original color. The Art of Watercolour #6, p27Atanas Matsoureff
